Quick Tip: Organize your Desktop with Fences from Stardock

Sometimes it can be very easy to let your desktop get cluttered. Saving files to the desktop and having all of your programs available as shortcuts gives the illusion of efficiency– everything is easily within view. However, the files and programs you really need can get lost in the pile.

Enter Fences, a program from the software company Stardock. Fences is a piece of software that allows you to create custom organizational outlines on your Windows desktop.

Here’s what my desktop looks like with the software:


You can create fences in whatever configuration works best for you and name them whatever you’d like. Custom colors can also be implemented in the software. All you have to do is a right-click and drag to set the initial boundaries of the fence, but you can resize them afterwards.

For example, I could change my desktop to a more vertically minded setup if I wanted. Here’s what that would look like:
